Glass Duo (Glass Harp & String Quartet)
The worldwide biggest professional glass harp is being brought to life by two former members of the Baltic Philharmonic Orchestra of Gdansk. Anna and Arkadiusz Szafraniec, a violinist and a trumpet player, show with virtuosity and perfection the vastand unexpected possibilities of a rare instrument, which covers five octaves. The glass harp is made of goblets, which are professionally tuned and allow to play without using water inside. Solo appearances as well as concerts with other ensembles from string quartet to symphony orchestra led the GlassDuo to concert halls, radio, TV and theatre productions around the world. The duo has worked together with the majority of Polish orchestras including The Warsaw National Philharmonic Orchestra and Sinfonia Varsovia. Anna and Arkadiusz have performed several world premieres of musical works composed especially for them byZbigniew Preisner, Garry Eister, Zbigniew Pniewski, Piotr Salaber, Tom Smail, Jean Chatillon and Daniele Furlati, just to name a few. Since ‘Glassy’ music also inspires artists from the realm of theatre, music recorded by the GlassDuo has also appeared in prestigious theatre productions. As one of very few professional ensembles in the world the GlassDuo recorded for radio and TV stations including arte, Discovery Chanel, BBC, TVP, Deutsche Welle, LRytas TV and Associated Press.
