Opening September 2018

The «Musica Mundi School» will open its doors in September 2018 on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Musica Mundi International Course and Festival ! A “première” in all of Central and Western Europe - this school will enable young musicians aged 10 to 18 to simultaneously follow their professional music education and general education.

The Musica Mundi School will be created on the historical and spiritual site of the “Monastère de Fichermont” - part of the listed and fully preserved areas of the battlefield of Waterloo where, in the aftermath of the First World War, it was decided to create a monastery to pray for peace and for the victims of deadly conflicts, in particular those who fell in Waterloo on 18 June 1815.

Following the departure of the community of the “Verbe de Vie” from the Convent of the Dominican Sisters the archdiocese had to find another assignment for the monastery. Thanks to an exceptional collaboration with the Archdiocese of Mechelen-Brussels, the «Musica Mundi School» will create in Fichermont its international primary and secondary music school with boarding house. The whole historic domain of Fichermont will be preserved with respect to the site of this former convent, including the use of the chapel, and will find a beautiful new assignment in the service of young talents and music.

The school, with English as its vehicular language, will offer a complete general education from the 5th primary year and up to the 6th secondary year. The school will follow the Cambridge International Examinations program and qualifications, and will deliver a high school diploma certified by this program. A boarding school will welcome the young talents who will arrive from all over the world.

Professional music education will be provided by all the artists who are already part of the «Musica Mundi Family» - Maxim Vengerov, the school’s ambassador, Ivry Gitlis, Mischa Maisky, Menahem Pressler, Ronald Van Spaendonck, Catherine Michel and many others ...

Instrumental teachers for all orchestral instruments and piano, master pedagogues and artists in residence will be present at the school regularly. Young talents will be accepted on the basis of an audition and according to their talent only. Scholarships will be offered to those in need.
